SO, I have 1mbit/512kbit ADSL. I've had this problem for some time: my uploads make my downloads slow. I've heard stuff about full/half duplex, that my upload+download speeds would add up to 1mbit, because I have half duplex. This is kinda annoying since three computer are sharing the same connection. Any help would be very welcome. Thank you in advance.

There's not really anything you can do with your current setup. The only thing I can think of is to use a switch instead of a router and change your NICs to full duplex. Otherwise, only 1 device can send or receive at any given time.

its a side effect of broadband. if its really a problem and you have the funds look into t1.

Well, you can improve the performance, but its NOT an easy task to do, and you probably will need a linux/bsd box (i dont know whether a method exists for windows or not), and wery solid determination to make it work ;)

What you need is queuing disciplines, you can read about it here: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/other-forma...

Hard to make it work, but it worths it ;)

An easier way is to keep your upload speed below your maximum 512k with limiting it in the application (too bad some apps dont have this feature, or dont work correctly).

and you dont think building a bsd box just to multiplex transmission threads is a stupid idea? rofl
