I was wondering if my oc'd E6300 at 2.4 was to slow for a 8800GTS/GTX?

What would be the best upgrade from my 7900GS? I want better gaming performance. Im thinking X1900gt even though I hate ATI drivers or 7950gt?

Its not TOO slow, but it probably won't let the GTX reach it's full potential.

go with ATI 1900gt is an excellent card, and paying extra for 1950 is just not worth it, (that is, if you overclock it and use an aftermarket HS)

It certainly isn't too slow. That's a great CPU.

Showing the difference to 3Dmark06 scores with my 8800GTX, at various CPU speeds.

2.66GHz isnt much faster than 2.4GHz (and yours has a much faster fsb). 3.6GHz isnt even that far ahead.

Thanx for all the replies well now that that i think of it maybe I should just save up for the 8800GTS/GTX either one. I know the 1900GT is better than my card but according to toms hardware vga charts it only beats my card in a few things. I dont lot of thinking thinks for all the great suggestions

Yeah, your CPU would be fine. Hell, I plan on tossing an R600 or 8800GTX in my system and I've got a 2.6GHz K8.

iv got a K8 system with a 8800gtx (cpu 3000+ lol slow) but the 8800 takes a hell of a lot of strain off of the cpu. i wouldnt say that any cpu is realy too slow to have an 8800 but it will limit it considirably. But it still increased my FPS on mst games by about 20%. Also wouldnt either a graphics card limit the cpu or the cpu limit graphics card anyway. So a 8800 will just let your CPU max out.

No.

But you won't have as much FPS in general as a higher clocked Core 2. But it will still be a beastly system and most likely handle near everything.

I'll get a 8800 gts or equivalent ATI product this summer and overclock my current cpu to 2.4 ghz on sig. I don't see it as a problem with your 6300 at the same speed. at lower resolutions your cpu will become more of a bottleneck but at the same time lower resolutions will provide you with more than enough fps anyway. As the resolution climbs games in general become more dependant on the gpu. So it kind of balances itself out. You can always upgrade to a quad core or e6600 and overclock to 3.2 ghz or more later when the prices drop. I see this as a way to always pay less than "bleeding edge" price for what you need. Just my two cents
