I clocked my e6600 to 3.2ghz the other night and ran dual prime95 no problem. I upped the clock a little and go to 3.4ghz. System boots fine. I can run all stress tests, play any game and basically do anything with no crashes & locks BUT i cannot run a single prime95 test without a fail on the first test. Is there anything that can be done to fix this?
Most likely a memory problem. I was having same style problems, and finally upped my memory voltage to 2.1 and bang! Orthos and prime 95 go the distance.
I prefer orthos, as it loads both cores completely (verified in task manager) and in a hurry. no messing with 2 parts of prime 95. Prime running 2 instances only loaded my first core and 2/3 the second.
a jump from 3.2 to 3.4GHz requires a little more vcore to get stable in prime or orthos.
also your fsb increase also increases your memory frequency so check the voltage and timings for your ram.
I think Vcore should fix it.
I third the motions on the floor. What's your Vcore? about 1.35 should be sufficient, maybe 1.375. Mem Volts should be +0.2V. Loosen up your timings too, 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-15. You won't take a very big performance hit from loose timings on an intel system, in fact, I promise you won't even notice unless you're compiling or encoding, then you might notice a few more seconds.
