I am running Win2k SP4 and I am unsure if I have a virus,spyware, or
Trojan issue. When I run certain programs, such as a disk cataloger,
the Win2k desktop interface completely freezes, eg. I can not switch
to another program, via the keyboard or mouse. I also can not bring
up TASK MANAGER window via. CTL-ALT-DEL to see if some process is
hogging the resources.

I performed a virus and spy ware scan and no positive results.

IS there any program that will run in the background and monitor the
system and provide me with stats to locate the offending task so that
I can delete it?

Or anyone have an idea how to determine this issues without having to
reinstall Win2K?

In addition to the below stuff that is my "generic" checklist" (see below),
also get into your registry and make sure there arn't any abnormal entries
in HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/current version/run and run services.

1) dump the temp and temporary internet files directories
2) reset the size of the recycle bin and browser cache to mins -- and empty
them out
3) reset the swap file settings "appropriately" -- a lot of debate on that,
so I won't go into detail here
4) virus scan
a) new sigs for onboard scanner
b) housecall.antivirus.com
c) replace Symantec/Norton with AVG7 (imho)
5) ad-aware
6) ccleaner
7) spybot s&D
8) reboot
9) defrag
10) reboot
