New system, under performing?

I built this PC yesterday, the spec is :

Palit 8800GTS 640MB latest drivers
E6300 running at 1.9ghz
2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 Twin2X Ram
Abit IL9 Pro
Collermaster iGreen 500W PSU

I ran 3Dmark 06 yesterday and only got 3200 points, is this normal?

Is the system under performing?

:?:

I would have to say yes because I have well its in my sig but I got a 5383 and I dont have near as much ram and not as good as gpu as you have. Hmm I know I have my 6300 ocd to 2.41 but surley that can be that big of differnce . I've heard the 8800's are have some driver problems right now. Sorry to have to tell you the bad news. off subject but why dont you bring up your core clock a little higher i got mine at 2.41 with stock voltage and 33c idle

I may do, when I can afford some more cooling, right now I don't want to fiddle about too much.

Still, my GPU seems to be well under performing...

That won't be it then - that's an acceptable temperature.

If you've uninstalled all the drivers and reinstalled the latest versions and still it performs poorly then RMA it.

Diezel? I played a VH4 briefly a couple of months ago.

It was a little bit like a Soldano in a way - it's got one sound that it does really, really well but on anything other than full tilt distortion I found the tones to be pretty disappointing. The clean sound was better than a Peavey JSX, but it was the same sort of arctic-wasteland clean sound which is great for sticking pedals over, but leaves me a bit confused as to why they bothered giving it four channels after that!

It sounds a million times better with a humbucking p'up than a single coil, and since Strats and Teles are my bag it certainly wasn't for me. I still have yet to find a more versatile amplifier than a Mesa/Boogie!

Ah, I use humbuckers all the way. I wouldn't say the VH4 is very good, but the Herbert and Einstein are amazing. I particularly like the Einstein because it's only 50W, so you can decent valve tone at low(ish!) volumes. Anyway, I digress.

Last night I uninstalled the GFX drivers and re installed them.

I then went on to score 103,000 in Aquamark, and 7170 in 3D Mark 2006.

Ok, that score is better, but still not as good as it should be, considering the hardware you've got. I gotten 6317 on 3DMark06 with my machine, which is far below the level of equipment that you have. Could you give us the individual scores; SM2, HRD/SM3, CPU?

At the moment, I would wonder if your 8800 card is performing up to its potential. I've read of people getting in the 10,000-12,000 range with an 8800 installed and functioning correctly.

Ok, by that score I'd say there is something wrong concerning your cpu, because my FX60 gets a score of 2267. It seems to be underperforming. Your video card scores are better, but still seem to lag. Since both your cpu and video card scores are down, it makes me wonder if either your ram or your motherboard are affecting the overall score, with more concern to the motherboard.

For a comparison only, my overall score was 6317, with individual scores of:

SM2 2442
HRD/SM3 2715
CPU 2267

As you can see, my big loss is in the older video card. Some work overclocking your cpu should help your cpu scores, but its the total score that has me wondering. Can't say for sure what is happening, but something seems very wrong to me.

According to Intel CPU ID utility.

Each core is running at 1.9 ghz and at 1087 mhz system bus speed.

Dunno what could be wrong.

Have you tried CPU-Z to verify what the Intel utility is claiming? At the same time, the Intel utility looks pretty close to spec for a stock 6300.

Beyond that, I've read of 6300 cpu's being overclocked to 3 ghz and farther, which should increase your cpu score a bunch. That's been the big advantage of the C2D cpus, their potential for overclocking. Without that, the lower ones can suffer a lot, even can cause a person to wonder if he wasted his money.

Try the overclock, raising the fsb speed and all. That might bring up your video card scores as well. That's about all I can think of at the moment.

The FX60 will run neck to neck with the lower end C2Ds in synthetic benchmarks, plus you have yours OC'd. I'm sure he can pass your score with an OC but I don't like the idle temp of 50C he's already got.

Better cooling may mean better case, not just better hsf.

You should be able to change the fsb can't you? Also, remember that as you OC your power requirements go up....

If your BIOS doesn't provide a way of overclocking, then you can't. Some motherboards and their BIOS's are like that. One of my older computers doesn't allow overclocking in any way. If you're interested in overclocking, it would be a good idea to return the board and then get one that allows overclocking, whether it is from ASUS, DFI, MSI, Gigabyte or someone else that is made for overclocking.
