another thing... when i first started it up i heard a noise, and then following a smell, so could that be my CPU is blown?

You're going to have to troubleshoot the PC. Start with the bare minimum: 1 stick ram, cpu, and vid card, keyboard, mouse, and montior. No hard drives or opticals, no USB or ethernet connections. Switch ram sticks, try them in different ram slots, swap power supplies, remove the mobo from the case, try another graphics card, etc. Change one variable at a time, that way you can be sure what is and is not the problem.

This is PC building knowledge 101, btw.

alright well so far ive swapped my Ram around... also, shouldent i be hearing noise from the speaker, because i dont hear anything

Reply to Buggass

Do you mean the mobo speaker, as in a fault code? If it was a ram problem, then yes, you SHOULD be hearing something from that speaker, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that you will be 100% guaranteed to hear the mobo speaker chirping fault codes if the ram were bad.

If you're talking about your system speakers, you need to disconnect them in order to troubleshoot. Like I said, only the keyboard, mouse, and moniter should be hooked up to your system.

Alright so, the PSU has been switched out, i did what you told me i pulled out an old 400w PSU and plugged it in to my Mobo with CPU, Ram, and vid only attached, it started up and still no bios on my monitor, ive also switched rams around, i dont have an extra video card or CPU so idk

I found a extra video card, its a geforce, kinda old. i threw it on my mobo and still blank screen so idk

so...no POST yet. You've tried the PSU, RAM, and video card. There's only a couple things it could still be. It could be the motherboard is bad, or the CPU, or it could be a bad mounting of the mobo in the case. Have you removed the motherboard from the case yet? when you take it out, set it on cardboard, and then test it out to see if it posts outside the case. If so, then it was a shorting problem. If that doesn't fix the issue, you're probably looking at a motherboard of CPU issue. If you could borrow a cpu to test, or put your CPU in a friends motherboard, you can determine which of the two is the problem. If you haven't been doing so, it doesn't hurt to use the BIOS reset jumper after every test.

Yeh ive been testing it outside of the case and everything and i do the jumper reset, but i noticed the cpu fan doesnt work in the cpu fan slot of the mobo i have to use another fan slot to power the cpu.

Alright... so i still had my mobo mounted on the case mount... i took it out and i placed it on a cardboard box... i start it up and my onboard speaker goes crazy....

Describe crazy. :)

That could be a good sign. Beep codes can go a long way in troubleshooting. If it's giving you one long continuos beep, check your mobo manual. It usually gives a guide to the codes.

its a series of beeps... it makes quite a beat. but yeh i cant find nothing in my mobo book...

If I am following events correctly, you have a motherboard tray to which your motherboard mounts. If the board works outside the case and off the tray, it would appear that the board is shorting to the tray. In the case kit there were standoffs, but usually they send more standoffs than you need to cover many installations. Check to be sure that you are using a standoff for each screw hole through your motherboard, and that there are no extra standoffs that are not being used under the board. If that is all good try looking between the board and the tray to see if you can see anything that is contacting the tray.

Good luck!!

These things bother me. When you let the magic smoke out of the chips they don't work anymore. What kind of noise? Was it that special ozone smell we all have learned is bad bad time? Find the source of the issue, your just spinning wheels until you do.

If there is no operational fan on the fan header you will get nothing.

okay so heres everything ive done, there was a poppy noise, it was most likely the short i fixed when i assembled the pc out of the case and it worked after fixing a few bug's i got the bios to come up and everything, so i start to assemble inside the case... i get power in the case can still load bios and everything then i try to attach the HDD and CD rom, and then it doesnt power up, so i go back to putting it togeather outside and it still wont boot up...
