hey, just wanted to know what you people think about this build and maybe give me some advice/suggestions on it. thanks.

All prices inc VAT :D

CPU - Intel Core2Duo E6400 - £138.64
Mobo - Gigabyte GA 965P-DS3 iP965 - £85.76
GPU - 640MB Palit 8800GTS - £277.16
Memory - 2X 1Gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 PC5400 (667) - £72.85 2X = £145.70
DVDRW - Samsung 18x DVDRW DL Lightscribe - £19.39
HardDrive - Seagate 250GB SATAII 16MB Cache - £54.04
Case - Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - £68.41
PSU - HiperPower Type-R 580W - £57.58

Total Cost (Without Delivery) = £846.69, the delivery will cost around £12
Total Cost = £858.69

Here are my questions: -
Is everything compatible (Will the 8800GTS fit inside this case)? Do u think i should save £30 by choosing the E6300 over the E6400? Will my PSU be good enough to power up this system? Also do i really need PC6400 (800) or will my 2GB PC5400 (667) be suffice?

thank you for taking time out and reading this, much appreciated! :D

^^near the bottom of that page...their GTX wont fit without doing something to the harddrive cage

if you want to OC then 800 is almost certainly the best choice. if you're not, then get the cheapest 533 RAM you can find

also if youre overclocking on any sort of budget, then e6300 is probably a better way to go

and if youre not then e6400 is a good choice.

but, then again, if youre not OCing then i'd save some money on the DS3.

im buying a GTS, not a GTX, arent GTS's meant to be smaller than the GTX?

if i was to overclock in the future, is the 667 ram still ok? or would i need to buy 800 ram?

so if i was to overclock, i could save money on the E6300, using this money to buy 800 ram as opposed to 667 and keep the ds3 mobo? is this correct? thanks

ps. i will need to read more into overclocking as i know hardly anything about it, but i have heard the e6400 have a 8x multiplyer while the e6300 has a 7x multiplyer. wouldnt this make the e6400 easier to overclock?

yes it has a different multiplier, building on a budget E6300 is better ebcause it costs less and the extra point of multiplier will, perhaps, affect .3-.5 Ghz difference in maximum clock speeds but the 6300 will still, probably, get up to or over 3.0Ghz on stock cooling if you're careful, and if youre not careful...buy an arctic freezer 7:p

if you want to overclock DDR2 800 is good value, anything higher seems to go for a ridiculous price.

667 is good for OCing e6300/6400, too..but i dont think it goes for that much less (i dont know for sure). see what you can stretch your budget to, but try and get 4-4-4-12 timings or lower...gives you a decent amount of headroom for your money.

an antec 900 is probably the shit for OCing on stock HSs coz of those fans, an aftermarket probably isnt even necessary to get great speeds, but with one youd probably get amazing results with either.

so: for budget: e6300 and (good) 667 RAM you might push 2.7-3.0
not-budget: e6400 and 800 RAM will probably push you over 3.0

but 667 and 800 ram work perfectly nicely with either processor

I think the Antec 900 has the PSU situated at the bottom of the case. If it does, you can't use the Hiper PSU (the P4 connector isn't long enough to reach from the bottom of the case).

Also, where are you buying from? www.scan.co.uk is quite, but I find www.ebuyer.com the cheapest, as you can get free delivery (although it takes 2-5 working days)

cant you just buy a longer p4 connector?? and also will the 8800GTS fit inside the antec900, GTS, thanx

Reply to GazMcfc

No, Hiper don't do a longer P4 connector. I'm not sure about fitting the 8800GTS. I know it won't fit the Antec P180 case (unless you remove the middle HDD cage), but I don't know about the 900.
