Thanks for posting!
I understand that you want to know is there any way to disconnect died
sessions by stopping and starting on of the services on the server. If I
have misunderstood your concerns, please feel free to let me know.
Based on my research, we cannot simply disable some services to disconnect
died sessions. The RDP is related to the Terminal Services.
However, this service is independence. It depends on the critical service
RPC with which many services have dependencies relationship.
Terminal Services:
This service allows multiple users to be connected interactively to a
machine as well as the display of desktops and applications to remote
computers. The underpinning of Remote Desktop (including RD for
Administrators), Fast User Switching, Remote Assistance, and Terminal
Server.
I also agree that you may want to connect with a console session to the
Windows 2k3 server and disconnect died sessions.
1. Open Remote Desktop Connection.
2. In the "Computer" box, type "<computername or IP address> /console"
(without the quotation marks).
3. Click "Connect".
4. In the "Log On to Windows" dialog box, type your user name, password,
and domain (if necessary), and then click "OK".
