So my current system is extremely outdated and not "upgradable" anymore so I'm putting together a new rig. I want to get "the best" components without doing something silly like buying the way overpriced intel extreme CPUs. I am, however, inclined to buy the 8800GTS. My system will be used for gaming and I'd really like to finally see the latest titles in all their glory (like Oblivion and Gothic3). I'll use it for photoshop and stuff like that aswell and I'm gonna start practicing Maya, but gaming is 1st priority.

So here's what I've come up with so far:

Nvidia 8800GTS (by club3d or Inno3d which are the cheapest where I come from)

Intel E6600 (not 100% on this one, the 4mb cache is pushing my decision, but is it really worth it?)

Motherboard is the hardest decision for me I've looked at some Asus modles like P5B deluxe etc. but I'd like to save some money here since I'm not gonna overclock my system at all.

Going for 2gb of 800mhz RAM, anybody know anything about this manufacturer: Patriot http://www.patriotmem.com/

Gonna go for CM Extreme Power 550W I think my system will be power hungry and it's good to be prepared.

I have been thinking of Aspire X-PLORER case http://www.digicomp.fi/product_info.php?cat_id=1454&products_id=198386 but if you have kickass recommendations please share!

Disc: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB, 8MB As far as I know this is a solid disc from a good manufacturer, no?

And finally the screen: AG Neovo K-A19 19" LCD Widescreen Monitor 3ms I figured that 230euros for this isn't so bad? Note that hardware prices in Finland tend to be steep.

Rest of the components I'll take from my old system (CD-rom/DVD RW etc.) In Finalnd these components will cost 1500+ euros. So what do you think? I'm not a tech "enthusiastic", but now that I finally feel the need to really step up few steps in performance and I get taxes off the price when I purchase I figured I'd go for a long lasting system with good upgradability. The things I've heard about conroe made me jump from the AMD camp. I've always used nVidia though due to friends having problems with ATI GPUs. The biggest question mark for me is the motherboard, but all help would be greatly appreciated :)

I found AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dualcore 5000+ for 250euros. How does it compare with the E6600? E6600 would cost me 337 euros.

instead of the 5000+ perhaps a core2 6300 or 6400 would be a smarter choice although core2 motherboards are more expensive than am2 ones.

For the PSU go for a FSP or Silverstone one.

or gskill, mushkin or ocz

The E6600 is a verry good processer exp. if you don't plan on overclocking it.
You can compare it to the 5000+ here.
It will have more room for upgradibility than a AM2 based system.

If you don't plan on overclocking, and price is of concern. A lower end MB won't hurt you to mutch.

The cheapest 965 MB I could find is this one, but anything with a 965 chipset should work for you.

Again, if you are not going to overclock, the least expensive DDR2-800 ram will do.
You should be able to find a value branded ram for $50-$60 less than the patriot sticks.

The psu you list is pretty weak with only 32A on the +12V rails.
You should try to find one with at least 3+ +12V rails at this rating.

The GTS is a great card.
The only real diffrence between manufactures is the warinty as all current 8800 gpu's use nVidia's refrence designs.
