I recently ordered some new pc parts to upgrade my current rig, and wanted to know what you guys think. Also was wondering how much improvment in speed there will be. I use the computer for home recording with programs like Cakewalk, Pro Tools, Cubase, etc. I also do some gaming but not very much, just your softcore gamer. I play games like HL2, Episode 1, HL Deathmatch, COD2, etc. Considering I'm on a budget I managed to get all these new parts just a little over $500. I'm not sure if that's a good price or not, but I tried my best picking out everything.

New PC
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ AM2
Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4 Socket AM2
OCZ Gold Series 1GB DDR2 667 (plan to add another gig soon)
eVGA 7600GT 256MB PCI-E
WD SATA2 160Gb

Old PC
AMD Athlon XP 1700+ (was a AMD Athlon 64 2800+ but mobo fried)
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Socket A
2x512 Kingston Hyper-X DDR400
eVGA 6600GT 128MB AGP
Seagate ATA100 80Gb

I hope you can cancel the order! You can get a much cheaper, much faster solution, and use most of your old stuff. Even when using the old stuff, you can get a much better machine than what you want to get, and much more expandable also. You can put in a PCIe card or use your old AGP card, and you can use the DDR400 memory you already have or later add DDR2 memory.

ASRock 775Dual-VSTA $57

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe $317

That is $374 there. You can get cheaper with a slower core2duo CPU, but the 4 meg cache on the E6600 easily makes up for the small speed shortcomings of the DDR400 and motherboard. any way you look at it, this solution is much better than the current AMD offerings.
