Currently this is exactly on budget before shipping. (and quite frankly, I don't care about the shipping)

I already have an NEC 3520A & a 3-4 year old syringe of Arctic Silver Ceramique. (how long does that last by the way...?)

Anyway, the CPU will definitely be replaced, but not until I can get the current high end quad cores for a good midrange price. That part's pretty much solid for now. The motherboard obviously can't be upgraded & I don't want to downgrade on that because it's going to be the bottleneck in 3 years. The E6400 is definitely going to be overclocked as far as air cooling lets it go. I have no idea what kind of power that will draw.

RAM I'm somewhat willing to change on, but... Actually I think I've already got it where I want it. It doesn't break the bank, and I've definitely got a compatibility check on the motherboard. Decent room for overclocking the E6400 too.

Video card is the big thing I don't care about. It's a throw away. It's there because it has to be. I'd prefer not to buy one now, but my 6800 GT is A) in the box I'm typing from now (with an Athlon XP 2700+... lol) & B) an AGP8x card. I definitely can't go up on this, it's probably where I'll squeeze in the PSU.

Next year I'll probably get something like a GeForce 9800 GT or whatever's the best high end value, but I'll definitely be avoiding SLI in terms of power requirement. (maybe low end cards for other monitors, but I don't have other monitors at the moment...)

Hmm... The hard drive situation on my current PC has been a mess ever since I first formatted each drive! :D

I've decided I want an insignificant boot drive with nothing but XP, the applications that contaminate XP, & a bit of temporary burn space; all of which will be reformatted more often than the never times a decade I've done that before. Beyond that, I think 400 GB is a good value point. I plan on having at least 3 of these by the end of the year, so 4 HDDs total. Maybe 5. They're not a huge power requirement by themselves, but in numbers they can draw a lot of power.

And chassis I'm more flexible on than the video card. Especially if there's actually a case in existence with a decent 500Wattish power supply built in. The only requirement is that I have more than two internal 3.5 inch bays... I don't want 5 inch racks again. Also, having airflow would be nice. You don't want to know what my current box looks like!

So in summary (you can just read this part for mostly the same effect), I can definitely change around the video card & chassis, and what I'm looking for is a good (& very good value) power supply.

And out of curiosity: Is the PSU in that chassis actually good enough? o_O
If it's good enough for what I have ready to buy now, I could just buy the real thing later.
