I have built-in Realtek ALC650 codec, and using the A3.95 driver I am getting more latency in games especially emulators. Should I cut back on HW acceleration or sample conversion? Furthermore, ever since I switched to this mobo (my older one had CMI codec) I noticed worse sound quality on my Creative 6600 6.1 speakers, mainly the bass which doesn't go away at all (even if the speakers are set to lowest bass level possible). Should I seek a replacement? Stores in my area sell expensive Creative products, and I'm not that much of an audiophile to justify shelling out $100+ on a soundcard. Is this an inherent design problem of the AC97?

cant say ive noticed much of excessive bass myself when ive used an ac97 chipset... all i can say is to try a variety of different drivers, seeing as how youve tweaked the sound settings a lot, im sure... ...the other option that comes to mind, is to purchase a cheap add in pci sound card (as you are only using onboard sound anyhow, so an up to date dedicated sound card wouldnt be any worse), it doesnt have to be from creative labs either, if youre just looking for better sound quality, and not a strictly high EAX version (above 2.0)

I have 2 failed Audigys. Not too impressed with Creative Q&A, they seem to be built to fail in 1-2 years.

You know you do not have to buy one of those e$pensive $ound bla$ter card$ ,check out your nearest online buy & sell for computers, chances are pretty good somebodys selling an older sb live 5.1,i have said beast on a set of logitech 5.1 speakers and all's well,
Now then,,,, some systems will suffer from latency with onboard sound and the reasons/causes are as many and varied as the hair on one's head, but usually it is due to the fact that some onboard sound chips off load thier work onto your cpu, sometimes it works and sometimes as you have found out it don't,anyhow once you have installed a standalone audio card you will never go back..'Been there done it got the bloody "T" shirt.':)
