I can barely read the forum for a few days as the optical fibre in Taiwan was broken.

Nothing really. Just Q2 2007 price drops and the release of the Core 2 Duo E4300 series.

No real new on AMD that I know of.

Interesting. How big was the outage? Was it limited to a certain ISP? Are you able to estimate how many people were affected?

Just curious. Thanks.

The submarine cables were damaged, severely impairing telecommunications for Southeast Asia. This included phone calls and internet access. However, the damage should be repaired shortly.

Taiwanese efficiency FTW!

This is what pisses me off about the American media. The above described situation is more than news worthy. Yet as an American did I hear ANYTHING about it?

Nope.

Because it didn't happen inside of our borders or directly affect us in some way it's not news. I really enjoy coming to these forums and speaking with people from around the world. I don't know if English is the native language for all of you, but you all write English very well.

I actually found an article on the FoxNews website. To find it I had to go to the WORLD section. Then I had to click on "Asia". Then a map of ASIA came up for ignorant Americans who don't know where one of the Earth's continents are. Then all the way at the bottom they had a link to the story:

Something very similar happened in Pakistan in Summer 2005 when the *only* fiber optic cable providing internet access to the whole country snapped. The resulting cyber-blackout lasted over 2 weeks, I think.

The damage to the network is the most severe for the largest ISP in Hong Kong. The emergency routing is done after 5 days.

Using other ISPs, we could barely surf on the Net after 2 days.

Unfortunately the network will only be completely resumed after January.
Maybe early February. :?

Yea I heard it would be a few months before everything was totally back to normal. But still, where I live right now service is abominable. I long for the old days when applying for an ID took less than 3 months...
