I recently did a hard reset on my ipaq 4155 WM2003 machine and reinstalled
any programs I want, etc. If I do a complete backup with activesync, will
this be something I can restore my machine to if I had to do another hard
reset down the road to clean up anything that was a problem? The first thing
I did after my hard reset was run HP's ROMupdate for my machine--Would my
machine have that also restored if I reverted to this backup file, or would I
have to run that ROMupdate again?
thanks,
Charlie

I guess to simplify my question: If I restore my machine to a previous
complete backup, will it affect everything, (Except storagecards) making my
machine exactly like it was at the time of the backup?

many thanks,
ck

Charlie,

When you take a Full Backup, it saves all your data files, any programs
you've installed, and any settings that you've adjusted on your device into
a file on your Desktop, except those programs that are permanently installed
in ROM. So, the answer to your question is YES.

Not quite true. I have a sandisk wifi +256MB SD card. If I do a backup and
restore, the card drivers are not installed. I have resorted to keeping the
installation cabs on the card as well.

And I find that MultiIE restores less than perfectly. It has to be
reinstalled.

I've not had any problem restoring multiIE from a sd card backup, fwiw.
This was on a wm2003 SE rx3115, using the included from hp sprite backup
version 3.0.2, multiie version 3.1.

It's been my experience that different backup programs have minor
differences that have different levels of impact.

As an example, the Jornada backup program restored files but they were
all dated with the current system date rather than their original
date... a significant problem.

The more advanced backup programs also have a lot of options making is
possible to configure them so that important files or data might get missed.

Finally, a number of ram files are generated following a hard reset...
the most obvious being the start menu shortcuts... if you have removed
or renamed any of these, you will have to go through the process again
following a restore... tip... delete everything under the start menu
before you start the restore process.
