I'm working on building a new computer and not sure which ram to go with. need some advice. Here is what I am debating between for what will work on my motherboard.

4 gigs ddr2 667 to start off with capable of expanding to 8 gigs.

or

2 gigs ddr2 800 to start off with capable of expanding to 4 gigs.

My motherboard can only go up to 8 gigs using the 667 ram. I'm going to be running vista in the future for sure...not sure when though.

I'm thinking ahead now of what the max is so i can be sure to be able to upgrade to the max of either situation. I can't decide if having the 8 gigs will be better in the long run, or having only 4 gigs but of faster ram. Any help or suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

i would get the 800 if it was reasonably priced compared to the 667. the increased bandwidth of the memory bus goes a lot further than slightly slower timings imo.

and 8 GB? i hope you work for NASA or something lawlz. O_O

but uh, wait for more replies.

Splendid
Since you will be running the RAM in dual-channel mode, all you really need is DDR2-533 (for current non-OC'd C2D CPUs). DDR2-667 RAM will be plenty (but try running it at DDR2-533 to see if it's faster or slower than DDR2-667, as DDR2-533 is "in sync" with the CPU).
