Hey, does anybody have a 7900 GS, any brand? If you do, what are you recording on your idle and load temps? Mine seems pretty high...it's a PNY. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Ya, i find my leadtek 7900gs does idle high at 47C
And my load temps are a little high also from 50 to 58C
But i don't worry too much about it (I might get a Zalman vga cooler)
video cards can take a lot of heat

What are tour temps

Personally after looking up temps on the 7900 gs i think that temperature is fine

If it bothers you then think about an after market fan

But like i said before video cards can take the heat just look at treshold temps 130C for my 7900gs when the alarm goes off

For sure lower temps are always ideal
higher temps will degrade your cards life but how much ,probably not enough for you to run it dead before you upgrade

Yeah, actually, mine's idling at like 62-64. Just today, I installed a 92mm Antec TriCool for exhaust in the back, it's still idling that high. Playing COD 2 for like a half hour, I close out, it's flating around 75. Those seems rather high to me.

Is that OC'd? Or do you just have terrible cooling/airflow?

=================

My eVGA 7900GS idles at 45C.
I was thinking of getting one of those PCI-slot coolers, but as people have said, video cards can take the heat.

What drivers are u using? Different drivers have different temp readings.
Anything below 80-85º c is ok. Just check those temps in summer time.

I'm just using Nvidia's latest forceware drivers. Nothing special. Like I said, I just added an Antec exhaust fan and it's still cookin' pretty well. Is that VF900 a vga cooler?

yes it is. either that or the vf700 will do a great job and keeping the noise down. Dont bother about that temps in winter like i said, but they'll rise in summer

take a look at your case first. I put a 7950GT in a Dell and had to add an exhaust fan and open up the expansion ports at the bottom of the case, and it still runs hot. adding aZalman GPU fan next, and maybe another case fan

one way to test if it is the case it to run without the cover and see if it makes any difference
