Until 2 days ago, the icon/ folder labels on my desktop did not have any
color behind the fonts- it was clear, only my desktop background was showing,
suddenly, I now have to put up with the little color rectangle behind each
label. I've gone to 'settings/ control panel/ system/ advanced/ performance/
settings/ custom'- "use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" is
disabled...
What do I need to do or change in order to rid my desktop of that annoying
color rectangle behind heach label?
Thanks.

Hi,

To start with, you need to enable, not disable, that option.

There are four things required for transparent label text of icon backgrounds:

1.Right click on the Desktop--> Arrange Icons By--> and clear "Lock Web
Items on Desktop".

2.Right click to My Computer--->Properties-->Advanced-->Performance -->
Settings, Check "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" --> Apply, OK.
or
Start--->Control Panel-->System--->Advanced-->Performance--->Settings,
Check "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" --> Apply, OK.

3.Disabling web content on your Desktop Background.
Right click on the Desktop ---> Properties---> Desktop---->Customize Desktop --->
Web---> Clear all Web pages: ex. My Current Home Page.
or
Control Panel -->Display--> Desktop--> Customize Desktop,
Clear all Web pages, ex. My Current Home Page.

4. Wallpaper shouldn't be an HTML file, it should be an image file.
Ensure yourselfe about this feature right clicking on the Desktop ---> Properties --->
Desktop, set your desired background photo. If it is your desired background photo
leave as it is.
or
Start--->Control Panel -->Display--> Desktop, set your desired background photo.
If it is your desired background photo leave as it is.
