Dual Core Power Supply Question

I'm building a new system with a 6600 and an ASUS p5b-Deluxe wi/fi.

My question is regarding the 2nd power supply hook up to the motherboard. My powersupply has 2 hook ups for the mother board. The first is the 24 pin. The second is only 6 pin. The motherboard has a 8 pin connection with 2 of them blocked off.

Is this power supply incompatible with this CPU? Tech support at asus says I need a 8 pin connection.

Thanks for your assistance, things have changed so much since I have built my last system. Back then a PSU was a PSU.
