Hi all, this is my first post in the forums, but I've been reading the posts for a while now, and have been reading stuff here at TGH for a long time.
Anyway, I've been trying to OC my X2 4200+ with the stock heatsink and fan. I don't want to go for the max, I just want a modest OC, and so I've been aiming at 2.4-2.5Ghz (2.2 stock).
Here are my system specs:
Motherboard – Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2
CPU – AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ AM2 2.2Ghz
RAM – Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 2x1Gb 5.5.5.18 2T
Video Card – eVGA 7900GT KO PCI-Express 256MB
Hard Drives – 2x WD Cavier SE16 SATA 250GB in RAID 0, plus 1x WD Cavier SE16 SATA 250GB
Power Supply – FSP Epsilon FX600-GLN 600W 4x +12V@15A= 60A total
Now, I did the stupid thing, and tried for 2.4 right off the bat, instead of find the max CPU and Max memory first. Here are some settings that I tried to get it stable at:
CPU:
Voltage: 1.2v (stock)
Core Speed: 2400. MHz
Multiplier: X 10.0
Bus Speed: 240.0
Now, I also tried it with the CPU voltage at 1.400v, and 1.425v.
I also tried it with the Memory Clock at DDR2 800, and DDR2 533.
Nothing is really stable, the most stable was the DDR2 533, I could get it to boot up, and ever restart without getting the 'long short short' memory error beeps. With the DDR2 667 I could get it to boot up, but if I tried to restart, I would get the error beeps.
If I set the CPU voltage to 1.400v or 1.425v, it doesn't even boot up.
Should I up the RAM voltage?
And another question, I keep reading about the memory divider. When I look in CPU-Z it says that the FSBRAM is CPU/6. What exactly does this mean? When I had the Memory Clock set to DDR2 533, it changed to CPU/8. How do I achive the 1:1 ratio I keep reading about?
Sorry about all my questions, but I like to learn. I've read a few guides but the memory divider still has me confused. I'd really appreciate any help at all. Thanks!
When I use these settings, I am able to run Prime95 for about 4 hours. Temps are at 53-55C. I'm going to try upping the RAM voltage to 2.0 (1.9 stock) and see if that helps.
My computer still freezes on the POST screen if I do a restart. And it does it occasionally when I'm changing different setting in the BIOS. Any suggestions?
My X2 4200 @ 2.7 with H2o i always say if your going to overclock it does not matter how small improve the cooling first.
I had to use mem divider to get a decent overclock and up the Voltage slightly in bios i have 3 options to increase i slected the lowest option 1.44v and it works fine to go up to 2.7 i select the mid option which give me 1.57v which is fine for 2.8 never tried top option dont want to fry my chip
i have PC3200 @ set it at PC2700 in my bios to go up to 2.7ghz i set it @ PC2500 highest i have gone is 255fsb 2.8ghz dont want to go any higher
