Hi, i have asus p5b deluxe + c3d e6600 and i cant overclock higher than 2.7 ghz, i think its pci-x clock speed, can you give me some advice to overclock it??, one more thing to say is that TAT shows temperatures 48 ºC idle and 65 ºC full at stock speeds with stock HSF. any advice you can give me will be welcome thanks!.
PD: other components are... 2GB OCZ Platinum DDR3 800 555, XFX geforce 7950GX2 M520 .........

Lock your PCI-e at 100 and PCI at 33.33. That should help. With your setup, you should be able to get to at least 3Ghz on stock cooling at 333Mhz FSB. To get to 400FSB, you might want to get a better cooler. Your temps seem a bit high at 2.7Ghz. What's your V-core at ?

Vcore is set to auto , so i hope it is 1,3V, shouldnt it?, one thing to say is that this one works at stock speeds 2.4Ghz undervolted to 1,1V and idles at 34ºC, so i think its not a bad overcloker rather than bad cooling solution, opinions?

Vcore auto on a P5B Deluxe can reult in some really high Vcores when overclocking. Fer instance, I was curious what Vcore auto would do with a moderate overclock of an e6700 to 3.0 GHz using a 300 FSB and 10x multiplier. Vcore auto picked 1.4V. That's pretty ok. I can run it stable here at 1.3V all day, so Vcore auto is a bit conservative. But, when I went to 3.6 GHz, Vcore auto picked a whopping 1.575V. Talk about heating things up. I can run stable at 1.425V Vcore at this speed and about 20 deg cooler as well.

So, my advise: don't use Vcore AUTO when overclocking. I think everyone else has said that as well, so I am not a guru.

Start high and work down is the best approach.

yes, i used auto to try it and see if that was useful to pass 320Mhz bus speed but... nothing, its seems to be the limit of my rig. Mate, what temps does core temp show you with your overclock??

:D i didnt say nothing!, its now stable at 3.42 ghz at 1,32Vcore and core temp max temp at full load 68ºC, its high... but its stock cooler, ok!! thanks!!, ops! it was the RAM timings by SPD what made my system not to boot!

Well, I have an e6700, so my temps might not be very helpful. But here they are anyway:

Stock HSF:

2.66 GHz Idle:40C Orthos load:59C
3.0 GHz Idle:50C Orthos load:66C
3.2 GHz Idle:54C Orthos Load:72C

Scythe Infinity

2.66 GHz Idle: 33C, Orthos load: 48C
3.0 GHz Idle: 37C Orthos load 54C
3.2 GHz Idle: 42C Orthos load 58C
3.6 GHz Idle: 41C Orthos laod: 62C (all fans set to HI)

Vcore was set to auto for 2.66, 1.3V for 3.0, 1.4 for 3.2 and 1.425 for 3.6. Q-Fan was enabled except where noted. Temps are 1-2 deg cooler with Q-Fan disabled and fans going full tilt.

All temps were from CoreTemp. PC Probe II temps were always lower, even with PECI disabled.

Hope that helps.

Tom

ON EDIT: Saw your post. Yup, memory will certainly cause POST issues. Glad it's going faster. Get a better cooler and your temps should drop like mine did (10 degC at load).

so many thanks to you mate!, for now im not overcloking too much, im using it at stock speeds and 1,1Vcore 45ºC full load, when i need more horse power i overclock to 2.8 ghz 1,2V , its good to know that i will have more horse power when i need it, thank you
