computer restarts itself - random acts of violence

I am running windows 2000, with 1 gig ram, p4. Lately, this computer
randomly will restart itself. In the event viewer I get a message:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Save Dump
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Date: 7/14/2005
Time: 8:59:22 AM
User: N/A
Computer: DBURKETT
Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000004e
(0x00000002, 0x0002fee8, 0x0003fe3f, 0x00000001). Microsoft Windows 2000
[v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini071405-01.dmp.

Any advice?

Thank you for the response, but that didn't give me any information that was
new to me. I also checked the driver verifier and it has been disabled, so
don't know what is causing this error. Perhaps it will be address in SP5?

Hi,
This could be caused due to a faulty RAM, older versions of third party
drivers,especially cd/dvd rom software drivers and printer drivers. Hence,
check your RAM, update all the drivers and bios on your server and uninstall
any software which is not needed.

What's the frequency of these errors? If it is too frequent try a clean boot
using msconfig.

Thank you for the response, the frequency is: 7 times in July, twice in June,
twice in May, four times in April (I don't think it has anything to do with
the month's number in the year), and twice in March. This morning, I logged
on to the network, then it imediately rebooted. The bugcheck this morning
was: 0x0000000a, which is slightly different than before. What is a clean
boot using msconfig? Unfortunately, it is not something that has a logical
sequence (which is my biggest nemisis!) Thank you again,

Hi,
Usually, different stop codes correspond to hardware failure. I have my
money on your RAM. try swapping it with a healthy one.

Thank you for that opinion. I have sent an e-mail with your response about
the faulty ram to where I purchased the computer (in March) to see what they
have to say about it. Hopefully they will just exchange the ram. I don't
have any extra sitting around right now that will fit in this machine.
Hopefully that is the problem and it can be easily corrected. Thank you

I had a cheap motherboard. It would not take 1 GB of Ram but handle 512 with the
best of them. It was not seen until I tried to use Acronis. All images were
faulty allthough the computer next to mine worked fine with just 512MB.
A download of an update to roxio at 800MB + also did not go according to plan
but downloaded well on the other computer. 1 GB was set up in 2 x 512Mb. Either
but not both chips together worked well with memtest86.
Also had a lot of sudden reboots on this computer but not on the other one on
the network.
Now np reboots but new motherboard with 1 GB of ram.
