Does anyone know if this displays at 1080p for 1080i material?

It seems to say so in the description, but then in the manual mentions 1080i
or 520p viewing...maybe they forgot to make the change to the manual?

Would this be better than the S500 series?

Ok, don't take this the wrong way, but make sure you read the material
properly and not just what you want to read.
The 1080p is for their Virtual HD. This is what Hitachi uses to upconvert
DVD and analog cable signals. I have had several customers tell me that
Hitachi has 1080p, and that is better than 1080i. On Hitachi's material it
does specify that any 1080p is Virtual HD.
The S500 and S700 series is the same exept for the S700 series has an ATSC
tuner.

Yeah that sounds correct. The 1080p doesn't refer to the HD source material,
but rather how it displays it -- at 1080p. Like playing 480i DVD's at 480p.

I suppose the upconversion from 1080i to 1080p should look better.

I believe this is the set I'll get.
