Well, apparently a lot of working people will get a check for $500 from the government, just for being alive. Ok for being employed? Or is it a welfare check? Whatever. But, it would have been better if the company they worked for had not been subject to increased federal taxs and be so taxed that their employer can sh!tcans plans to expand and open new locations and employ many times over the number of employees already employed who will now be layed off and get no $500 welfare check. On a personal level, I know we won't be expanding our small business like we did four years ago or employing any new people. Maybe my wife can get a government paid breast enhancement when Uncle Obama takes over healthcare. Look for numerous instances of poor judgement and all the talk of blind ambition you can stomach. In the spring of '68, as a teen, my home was on a route that was scheduled for a demonstration, march protest whatever. I shook with the fear when I realized my house would likey be burned down. The protest march was called off. I was stabbed during a period of racial tensions at my high school. This is a generation that doesn't see it that way, thankfully. I understand. For so many this brings hope. I'm happy for the many that experience hope. It's a good thing for the country. I do question the Man's rectitude. I think our military will be cut back and that is what I dislike the most as a result of this election. Our feet are still on the ground all over the world. If not for people like my dad who dug the trenchs and fought for 38th parrell in Korea, all of Asia would be Communist. That includes South Korea and Japan being communist. Same for Europe...obviously. I predict Obama will be a corn flake. Romney 2012! Unless Sara has something done with those waterbottles.

People may laugh at Obama's vague promises of change but christ, he cannot be worse than what else was on offer especially the psycho-bitch palin(let's be honest McCain was going to croak).

You guys have had someone in government due to rigged elections for 8 years, 8 god damn years and yet you don't complain and many would want more of the same, incredible.

It doesn't matter what change happens, anything is better than what you have now, you must see that.

Obama's going to pay for my gas and mortgage! I'm stoked. I can run my credit card up and not have to pay it. Awesome. All because Obama's tax calculator will give back $700 a year if you make under $200k... so far.

America bought into the right ideas but sold out on the wrong agenda.

At least he has a get out of jail free card labeled African-American.

Hey Phuk, how about Barney Frank's statement to cut military spending by 25%? Awesome, how quickly we forget about national security.

AH HA....but you see, this is the clever side of campaigning...Obama can 'promise' anthing he wants, tax that group, give money ther, do this that and the other.
Dosent mean any of it will ever come to pass, and he can get off blame free. It all has to go through congress, and they can nix anything. Even with a democratically controled congress, they can blame failure on the republicans. And the same would have held true for McCain, Nader, McKinney, McNulty or any of the others. In DC, theres always a way to schuck blame. Just look at Clinton.

Really though, all kidding aside, who knows. It takes more than a president to make and anact policy. Pelosi is a whore of galactic proportions, (not as bad as my honey Hillary), but even with a democratic congress backing her and Obama, I suspect we wont see anything to radical....its not the political way, and say what you want, Obama is a politician who even at this very moment thing about his next campaign for his next term.

Cut the military budget in half. Now. I think Obama will make a difference. People will look at his victory and realize that race is not a factor. Millions will suddenly realize that the reason they can't get ahead is not because they're black, but rather that if you drop out of school, wear prison-inspired baggy clothes, have all gold teeth, wear 40 pounds of jewelry and insist on "Axing" questions - nobody is going to take you seriously, and you deserve to fail. I'm absolutely positive that people will take this chance to better themselves.

The one thing you can always count on is that Americans will always take credit for their personal failures and bad choices. The very, very last thing anyone wants to do in this country is blame the problems they caused for themselves on others or the government - let alone be part of a socialist movement, or allow the government to give them money they didn't earn.

Mugz bless this country.

@turpit: I stop over once in a while... if you notice in the last month or two, there hasn't been much going on here.
I've been over on another forum.. couple LEOs offering up daily events they encounter around the country and worldwide.
Far more intersting things going on over there than the same rehashed stuff here.

Here's some good news and King will be excited to jump to 14-15 trillion.

$700 billion dollars bails out 1 million foreclosured homes. This is according to Kiplinger by the way.
3 million homes are in the 'pipeline' to be bailed out. That's at least 2 trillion in addition, according to Kiplinger's studies, to bail that out.

On top of that you have the merger in Michigan.. if the merger goes through, that'll be 90,000 jobs lost, along with billions from the gov't to keep them running.
If the Big 3 in Michigan goes under due to things like having to meet tighter fuel efficiency standards, that'll cost the US up to 3 million jobs nationwide. Its a doomsday scenerio, but regardless, the Obama will be forced into bailing out the merger. It'll be a double edged sword with 90,000 jobs lost, plus a loss of that tax revenue, which ultimately throws a big wrench into his 'economic' plan that 2 years ago might have been viable but with the economic changes, not really a good idea at this point. He himself even has admitted that his economic plan will have to be put on hold to 'fix' the economy before he can do what he has promised.

I'm more pissed off about the local issues that passed than I am over the presidency. A couple weeks ago at the detroit yatch club I talked to an electoral college vote and his son who worked for Obama.
The conversation went something like this:

"Obama will fix the economy.. blah blah blah."
I asked for an unbiased, no BS answer.
Their replies?
"Either way [McCain or Obama], we're fcuked."

I agree with Winston Churchill's statement for you island dwellers:
"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

Averager vote bought into Obama's hype. Socialism on paper works pretty good. It just fails everytime its been put into practice.

Whine, whine, whine. You rely to heavily on your government. Taxes go up, taxes go down, who gives a fcuk? Find ways of not paying any if they bother you so much. What? That would be illegal, immoral even? So what, why do you care? Oh, I see what it is, you're a socialist and need to play by their rules to feel safe as part of the herd. You need rules in place to protect you, if that's not socialism, then what is?

Reply to Tom_Smart

It's so much easier to criticize than offer an actual solution. The left/right-wing nuts crack me up. Both flame each other to the point it's literally become a billion dollar industry! Both forget to offer up their idea's on how to solve the problem, because they're too busy blaming each other. It's the Dems/Republicans/insert name here, fault, but no actual solution. Blame game, pure and simple.

Trickle down theory works, in theory, some of the time. Bottom up theory also works, some of the time. It depends on the situation and economic climate. There's no broad stroke that applies to every condition. Sometimes a chick wants to be romanced, other times she wants to spontaneously be bent over the counter.

I request, if someone actually wants to flame economic policy, offer a suggestion to fix it, then explain why it'd work in your opinion. Sure Turp dislikes the Clinton's, I probably do more, but the economy grew under him, thanks somewhat to Bush Sr raising taxes. Yes Riser dislikes Democrats, and living in MA the only thing that annoys me more the ultra-right wingers are ultra-left wingers, but ultimately there has to be a middle ground.

I have no problems paying taxes for infrastructure and national security.

I do have a problem when the gov't spends $3 million a year paying 4 people to figure out what picture goes onto the next stamp.

I voted for McCain because I liked the idea of not throwing more money at the problem but reviewing each program to figure out how to make it better.

Isn't it you European people who are always talking about making things more efficient and cutting waste out?

The gov't makes enough money.. giving them more doesn't solve the problem. We only need to look across the pond at your island to know raising taxes doesn't change anything.

That's right, lump 27 different nations from one continent altogether and say that we all think exactly the same...

Every time someone who a non-US citizen dares comment on a topic you're holding court over, you throw a disparaging remark at them. You sneer down your nose at anyone who isn't from your country just because they aren't.

The difference is, we don't think we're superior. You do. And don't try and pass it off as "a joke", or "I'm just trying to provoke a reaction". It's the same old cobblers every time. Your true feelings come right to the surface.

Yeah Rob, its called "Nationalism."

You have the EU and think alike on a lot of issues. Yet, when an American says something, the first thing you do is jump on them because we don't have it as bad as you do over there? Our taxes may be lower in some cases, higher is other areas, but at least we feel we have a way of directing our future to some degree.

Proud to be an American. What can I say? I am.
I saw a recent study that showed less than 50% of people in the UK are proud of their country. Wow.

I agree. American Nationalism is a defined term in itself.

Ever wonder why your citizens aren't as proud of their country? We have our faults and I believe the citizens recognize that.

What's your citizens' excuse for not being as proud of their country as we are in America?

We have higher standards.

Reply to Tom_Smart

The thing is that we don't need an excuse. We're secure enough as a nation to live with the fact that a most people are no longer proud of the nation. Why am I not proud to be British - Because I'm fcuking English! Don't group me in with the jocks and the welsh, let alone the Euro lunes.

Why am I still not happy being English? Because half my fcuking country seems to want to be American, drive wank cars, listen to sh!te music and live of fcuking burgers. Best thing you could do to restore English pride is to replace all US TV shows with dramatisations of the Archers, re-brand all McDonalds as Whimpy and make them serve food on plates with knives, forks and fat old dears that work as waitresses. Ban Starfcuks, kill the liability culture, and insist that all the fantastic design (although made overseas) is clearly marked "Thought up by an Englishman".

Oh.. and winning the world cup wouldn't hurt.
