ok i just wanna know if i can do this or not :|

Mobo: Gigabyte ds3
Ram: Samsung ddr2 533 mhz
cpu: intel pentium d 805
video card: evga e-geforce 7600gs 256 mb w/ fan
Case: Coolermaster RC-534-KKR 430W psu

So with stock cooling and one 120mm fan at the back, would i be able to get the cpu to 3.32 ghz or am i just dreaming??

appreciate any hints, advice, or laughter
thx, clark

I dont see why not. I wouldnt bank on any more than that since youd probably have to up the voltage to hit >3.32ghz and produce a whole lot more heat. :)

Actually I hit 3.4 and 3.5 GHz at stock voltages (the BIOS says that it's 1.375 but CPUID shows it as fluctuating between 1.265 and 1.375). I have a Zalman 9500 and at 3.4 GHz the 805 idles at about 33-36 C and 40-46 under load. At 3.5 GHz it idles at 35-37 and 45-51 under load.

Easily. Likely with very little or no extra voltage too.
Make sure you have good airflow if your system will be running under 100% load for extended periods of time, temps can slowly crawl all the way into mid 70's.

Sorry the load temps I posted were when one core was loaded. When both cores are maxed out (such as when encoding video) the load temp climbed up to 62 C at 3.4 GHz.

Thx guys, this really helps since im on a budget, at least this way i can save money on cpu

btw the 533 mhz ram wont break down on me will it? neone actually been able to up the 805 with a 533 or should i save up for a 800mhz ram?

Since you're trying for a moderate OC, I would suggest 667FSB ram.
At 3.33 Ghz, your FSB is actually 167, which is exactly synchronous with 667FSB ram (PC5400 DDR2). On top of that, most 667Mhz ram (even the cheap value one) will easily run a bit higher, like at 700FSB, possibly with a bit of extra voltage. That gives you even more OC headroom.
Whatever you do, try to run your FSB&RAM synchronously. That way there's less load on the buffering hardware, which results in less work for hte chipset. It's also the optimal configuration performance-wise.

Cheers
