Well I left my soot petpet on, and I zapped it and now it's a Peadackle. I
missed Turmie (and Snowy since they were the same hour yesterday) so I don't
know if he would have eaten a soot petpet. I don't think that turning your
petpet into soot is final. I know they say it is, but apparently not.

So today, Sunday, I hit the Peadackle with the Ray and turned it Soot again.
I like the Pile of Soot. It's sort of like a black horseshoe crab.

Hmm... wonder if that'll be a pattern, zap 'em once after becoming
soot, they'll change into a regular petpet, but zap 'em again, they're
soot again...

Also wonder if pulling a petpet off after being zapped back into a
regular petpet will revert the petpet to its original petpetness or if
it'll revert back to soot...

It will return to its original I would assume.

What happens when you remove a soot one?

Someone tried that, I heard, and was left with a pile of soot they
couldn't reattach as a petpet.

I have removed two piles of soot (in three days, grr...) that both times
turned back into the original petpet, a Mallard. Although, according to
the Neopian Times, a pile of soot stays that way forever, mine did not.
Perhaps they mean it will stay that way "forever," despite repeated
zapping, until it is removed.

Nope, I turned my pile of soot into a Peadackle. I think they changed their
minds about it staying a pile of soot.

Today my pile of soot gained a level. Ooh, aahh. Ranks right up there with
the Lab Ray changing gender for usefulness. I got that today for my Lab
effort.

So now we know that the Petpet Ray can increase (and probably decrease, but
I don't know for sure yet) Petpet level, turn into a Pile of Soot, change
species of Petpet, and do nothing (which might be the result if it was going
to take away a level but you were already level 1, which is when I got it).
I wonder if it was going to change a Pile of Soot into a Pile of Soot if it
would do nothing, or say that it changed it into a Pile of Soot?
Any results that I missed?
