I can answer your question right now. You said you have a 4:3 hdtv. But in fact there is no such
thing as a 4:3 hdtv. hdtv's are only 16:9. Now before you think I'm ignorant let me explain.
What you can buy is a 4:3 EDTV (enhanced defintion tv that is 4:3 (640x480 resolution) that
has an hdtv built into it. This hdtv could be a progressive screen or interlaced. If it is interlaced
you are not in luck for displaying computer output. Since you have been succesful in getting
a display you must have a progressive hdtv. You can not use your EDTV and your HDTV at
the same. When you run your EDTV you are using the area the HDTV would normally access.
You thus can run 640x480 at 4:3 or 720x480 or 1920x1080 or whatever your highest hdtv
resolution your hdtv can handle at 16:9 since that is the ratio of your hdtv. Its really pretty simple,
hdtv's are always 16:9.

I am *very* confused by your statement about there not being a 4:3 HDTV. I
HAVE a 4:3 HDTV, and HDTV content is desplayed letter-box style. It IS
1080i and not only EDTV (480p).

As far as the original problem, I think the OP is going to have to be happy
with letter box or black lines bordering the picture. In fact, from my
understanding PC images are usually OVERscanned and you cannot see the
entire image...
