Network name not found

I am working with a Windows 2000 server in a single active directory domain.
All was well until lately when an XP Pro workstation tried to do a
\\servername and setup a shared printer off the server. When you do a
\\servername, the window opens as if you are going to see the server shares
but there is nothing in the view. Tried removing workstation from domain and
re-adding. When I do I get a "No network name found" message. The
workstation can ping the server by name but one strange thing is you can also
ping the domain name and it replies back the the server ip. Tried to dcpromo
and reconfigure active directory but nothing changed. Any ideas before I
reload the server?

Change the network cables - I just set up a computer with a cat5e network
cable out of the bag and it could mostly ping things and some other
computers could see it in network neighborhood, but it was flaky. Changed
the cable, instantly mended :)
