I bought a new Zire 72 and I am not impressed with the battery life.
Tell me PPC users how often do you need to charge? With my Palm I play
music, record and play videos, view photos, etc.. These activities
waste the battery life so I need to charge the unit once a day. If I
ignored such multimedia usage I would get longer.

The reason I ask was I was thinking about buying the low end Dell
PocketPC but chose the Zire 72 instead. It has been a great, great
Palm, except for the blasted internal battery. Dell's have a
replaceable battery. I hope long term I did not make a mistake. The
Palm will be useless in a couple years if the battery dies and Palm no
longer repairs this unit , because its too old! Then I'd regret not
buying a PocketPC!

Thanks,

John

It depends on your usage pattern. On a Pocket PC Phone Edition, since a
radio is always on the batter life is shorter than on a Pocket PC. Wireless
LAN and Bluetooth impact, as how bright you leave the backlight on.

My experience is that a HP iPAQ h4150 may last a few days with Bluetooth and
some usage, or less with wireless LAN. On the other hand most of the new (if
not all) Pocket PC charge when connected to USB, so simply placing it in the
cradle to sync is enough to keep the power going on.

Your batter life would be dependent upon usage. My
former PPC was an 3955 Ipaq. Which I still use, had no
Wifi, or bluetooth; I could go 3 days without charging
it, with average use.

I now have a Dell X50v, and I find that the standard
battery is a little dissapointing if I am using wifi.
However, if I don't go wireless, I can keep the Dell from
needing to be charged for about 2 days with normal usage.

However what I call normal usage may not be yours!! ;-}

HTH and of course...YMMV

My experience has been that typically Palm devices have a much better
battery life than most pocketPC's, that being said though, I made the switch
to pocketPC and would NEVER go back to palm.

To take it further Psions had better battery life again. Over 20 hours
on the 5mx and over 40 hours on the 3's. The conversion has taken some
time, I would definitely like better battery life but I prefer the ppc
now. I would seriously consider going back though if a new Psion was
released though (but that is very doubtful).

My ipaq 2210 is pretty much the 3-dayer assuming that I'm not running
Windows Media to listen to mp3's. If you sync on a nightly basis (AS YOU
SHOULD), the cradle will keep the battery charge up.

Why should one sync nightly? I backup off-device throughout the day and
charge as needed. Was you referring to only backup and charging reasons?

If I could by a Psion Revo new tomorrow (and have it have a replaceable
battery this time) I'd be all over it. As is. I loved Psion.
