Hi, I just bought a Radeon X1650 pro 512mb. I got it on a pretty good deal
140$ Reg. 240$ Canadian which is like saving 100$(Was on sale 80$ + was used extra 20$ off). Do you think the prices for this card will stay around 200$ in the next year or will they go down to like 150$(canadian)

Anyways I have Oblivion on my pc, this card is sopose to run it very well with no problems, well as it says so here: http://ati.amd.com/products/radeonx1650/radeonx1650proa... some reason it laggs when I'm walking around areas with water and a lot of NPC's..etc. I doubt it's the card here's my system

Amd anthlon(tm) XP 2800+
2.13Ghz
1.00Gb Ram

I know nothing about how good that is all i know is that thar the min. Ghz for Oblivion is 2ghz and the recommended is 3Ghz. My previous graphic card was a Geforce 6200 oc 256mb which pretty much is crap compared to my new one, I'm thinking of returning my X1650 pro but I just need the right info from you guys.

-If i were to get a new motherboard, would this be good enough to run oblivion Full settings very well?
http://www.cuttingedgecomputers.ca/shopexd.asp?id=1928

^that's 3.4ghz correct?, lol i don't even know if it's a mother board(i'm a big newb i know) if there's any other better motherboards on that site please post em here.

-so is that x1650pro a good card(good to run oblivion) or should i bring it back? Chances i probably will unless you guys can find me a good mother board on http://www.cuttingedgecomputers.ca for a reasonable price.

--Edit-- Is that card better or worse then x1650?
it's a 256Mb XFX 7600GT
http://www.cuttingedgecomputers.ca/shopexd.asp?id=1041

50$ more is this worth it?
256Mb XFX 7900GS

Thanks for any replies

First, forget ever link that you posted. None of it is compatible with your system. Your lag is probably a combination of you CPU and Video card. Try medium settings for oblivion. There's no way that high settings will work well. Even medium is a stretch. For the price you paid, it's the best card you'll find in AGP. if you really want to run Oblivion well you should look at a decent upgrade. You would need something like this,

http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct... $74
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct... $90
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct... $200

Unfortunately, your system is outdated, and can't be upgraded by just changing the CPU. And why do you need to buy your parts at that store? The prices suk, way too high.

I needed parts from that store because it's only 10mins away from my house. The site you've posted is canadian so is it actually the same price as candian money? It's online only store though none close to my area... have you ever bought anything from there? If so did it come in good condition and is the site trust worthy? I've never bought anything online before. about 300$ update prob another 20-30 plus tax unless there isn't any online? Anyways i could afford that just wondering how long that upgrade will last me with running the newer games, 1 year, 2?

Also What is this?(sorry i'm a newb with pc's)> http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct...

Thanks

It is a trustworthy site. But if you have a store near you, it might be more convenient, but is more expensive. Shipping will probably close the gap in price though. As for newer games, you should be good for a while. How long? all depends on how graphic intensive future games will be. We never know. Especially with DX10. What is your budget?

And BTW, thats a processor(CPU)
January 6, 2007 11:51:16 PM

What do you mean by
"Shipping will probably close the gap"

budget, probably 300$, i can maybe go 50$ up.
Anyways my speed is currently 2.1ghz, i can get pretty good graphics out of Oblivion it's just slow, if i get the newer cpu that has 3.06ghz how much faster will the game run?
I have two sticks of 512ddr ram(1GB total), hardrive space is 30gb,
could that be affecting the performance of the game? I think i accendently downloaded the x1600 drivers, and the games graphics where amazing better then the actual 1650 drivers but very very slow, 1fps. Why was the graphics better? I think the graphics card that i have now ,X1650 pro 512mb should run oblivion well it's just my cpu, I have the APG version of the card, whats the difference of the PCI version?

If i just got the new motherboard and processor do you think I'd be able to run oblivion well? Also if i dislike the item that i purchased can I return it some how and get my money back?

Thanks,

Well I looked everywhere within Canada, but I can't find a better deal than what I posted. I say "close the gap" because you will have to pay shipping, but I believe that you will only have to pay 1 tax, depending on where you live. if you don't like the product, then you can send it back for a refund. But just changing the motherboard and CPU probably won't do you any good. Your video card is a midrange card, bordering on low end.
What you really should try is lowering the graphics in Oblivion. Load the game and go into graphics preferences and lower the settings to medium. Then open Catalyst control center. Under 3D(on the left side of the window) choose "all settings", find "Mipmap detail level" and slide it to "Performance", then "wait for vertical refresh" to performance" and you should get a boost in FPS. If it's still not enough for you, bring back the card and order what I posted, because even a faster processor won't give you that big of a boost.

I live in London Ontario -how much shipping would this cost?
At the site it says the graphics card is 200$, thats canadian right? If I buy it i won't have to pay like 300$.

1tax? does this mean 1$ tax?

Do you know he different between the PCI express and the AGP?If you look here it says that you can play the most sophistactied games such as Prey and Oblivion. http://ati.amd.com/products/RadeonX1650/features.html

***EDIT*** OH i found out why the video card is not as good as i was expecting, i got the x1650 pro when I was looking at the X1650XT :(

But when you look at the AGP version it says nothing about oblivion or prey whys this?

My mothboard doesn't support PCI though so if i'd to get it i'd need a whole new mother board.

Options(which do you think i should do)

1.Get new motherboard and CPU, take back AGP version and get PCI x1650

2.Get new everything(what you've posted)

3.keep all my old stuff, bring back x1650, use my older card 6200 oc 256mb(pretty bad) and wait for a newer videocard to come out

4.Bring back my x1650 and get the X1950PRO, for 60$ more how much better is this? Bestbuy sells X1900GT 256MB for 350$ is the x1950 pro better then it?

The stores are located around Ontario. here's a list of addresses.
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowContact
You will have to pay both taxes. But if there is a store close enough to you, you can save on shipping by picking it up. You'll have to check stock at the location nearest you, if you decide to pick up the item\s yourself.

Yes the X1650Pro sux. is under-clocked and only has DDR2 memory instead of DDR3. The core is also under-clocked compared to the XT. But there are AGP and PCIe card that are Pro versions, but run at XT speeds.
They are
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct... AGP
and
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct... PCIe
The X1950Pro kills the X1650XT. It gives the same performance as the X1900GT and does better than the 7900GS\GT.

My suggestion, bring back the card, buy the motherboard and the X1950Pro and wait 3 weeks for the CPU( and you'll need a new power supply for this system, no more than $50) The prices will drop by then and you'll be able to get a better CPU for the same money you would spend today.
Or if money is an issue, get the X1650 pro AGP that I put in the link(XT speeds), along with the motherboard. The CPU can wait a few weeks until prices come down. But you'll be able to use your card while you wait.

Just to make sure you understand, you can't get the X1950Pro for your system. They are PCIe cards and you use AGP. They are made in AGP but impossible to find.

Thanks mrmr for taking your time to help me.:)

The closest store to me is an hour drive down to Waterloo..not that far not very much on gas money on the little honda eather.

What I plan to do...

-take back the 1650 pro as it is not what i expected it to be
-since theres a store only 1hour drive away I might think of getting the 1950 pro and the motherboard, in 3weeks how much do you expect the prices to drop for the CPU and why would they be droping?

Also it is possible to take apart the CPU that is currently on my motherboard and put it on the new one that i may buy, correct?
I don't have any experience in putting a computers togeather but my friend does.

the CPU that you refered to me is 3.06GHZ right? Just wondering if you knew what this was cause it only is 2.66GHz :
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct...

Ah,
I don't think i'm going to be getting anything right away :?
I'll wait a couple months untill fall, ill bookmark that site and this fourms.
Thanks for the help mrmr, make sure to comeback sometime in the fall to help me pick out something then, lol. I'm going to take back the card x1650 pro, use my old 6200 geforce and play Oblivion, which is still plays ok on med settings.By the way that thing you told me to do in the catalys helped a lot, any way you can do that for a geforce 6200 256mb oc?Thanks.
Sometime in fall i'm going to do a 500$ uprgade.
