540j temps

I decided to oc my old cpu from 3.2 to 3.4 and the temps have a huge margin between idle and load..

Idle : 42°C

Full load(only 30mins of cod2) : 76°C

thats like 30°c different... cant be right surely. 8O

that seems too high - get a better heat sink - thermal right, venessa etc

76 c is very high if thats right -- typically u see that with improperly seated heat sink or too small. The reason is that at idel the heat sink is good enough but as it heats up it can not keep up.

too little compound?

you should be able to run that chip on 900-920bus at 50 idel and 65c max with good case cooling.

i built many 3.6j running at 4.08-4.25 only poorly seated heatsinks hit 75c all with good case cooling and aftermarket coolers.
