I have a Zalman ZM-MFC1 rheobus for 6 fans to which I would like to wire an Arctic NV Silencer. The problem I am having is this, the zalman has inputs on the back for only 3 wire connectors. Red (+12v), black (grnd), white (RPM control I assume). The Arctic has a two prong connector, red and black wires, just like the stock fan had on the card. My question is, can I connect the wires from Arctic to the rheostat and leave the white prong open? Will I still be able to control the fan RPM just by adjusting voltage? And what does the white wire really do?
I hope someone experienced can answer this one for me, I am pretty good at guessing too...
Not sure what the white wire does, but yes, fans speeds are controlled by voltage so you should be fine. You may not be able to read RPM, but who cares? It's the temp you want!
(p.s., the white wire may be auxillary voltage for LED lights? just a guess)
