You do a great job --- thanks for the link. Disappointing though that the launch price was not dropped to the rumored 530 mark as reported on a few sites.

Intel is going to raise the ASP in 2007 8)
Frankly, the ASP for CPUs are too low in 2nd half of 2006

So in for example 3 months time how much will this be and how much will the e6600 be?

Anyone got a cpu price drop chart?

Who cares?!

So AMD launch a completely botch-job 'quad-core' platform that underperforms, costs too much and produces loads of heat and it's like Mardi Gras in Baron town, yet Intel launches a cheaper and likely higher performing single-socket quad core that'll run cooler and you say 'who cares?'

Lots of people care, except him....because he's a NOBODY.

Well, the 530$ price would have put the C2Duo out of the game.
Its okay that Intels starts with 851 and lowers the price later.

My guess is the price is so high because they're in limited quantities right now - give 'em a couple three weeks and the prices will be more reasonable.

Quietly, Intel has started shipping of Q6600.

Intel started shipping three new quad-core processors on Friday night. The three quad-core processors include the mainstream Core 2 Quad Q6600 and single processor workstation and server Xeon X3220 and X3210.

Everyone except you...shouldn't you be writing page long posts on how this is nothing compared to the power of QuadSUX? I'm impressed at your restraint.

If the QX6700 and Q6600 are the same except speed and the locked clock, then production should be the same. I don't understand why someone whould even consider saving $9 on a locked proc.

Are they harder to produce than the QX6700?

They aren't the same speed. 2.66 vs 2.4. After supply meets demand, they should fizz out to ~$150 less than the QX6700.

Perhaps I didnt.
For my purpose the Q6600 will be a shoe in if the price hits the 530 mark.
the systems I build for the automotive field require multi user interface and at the price of the Q6700 I have to skimp on the motherboard.
I can build using a good work station motherboard and save the customer a few bucks.
that leaves room for one of my own.
I shouldnt speak for others. 8)
