Gday all,
I'm looking at getting a new monitor for use as a TV with a new TVtuner also i'm a avid gamer. The only problem i cant decide what to get a 21' CRT or a 19' or 21' LCD. I already have a 17' CRT and I'm thinking duel monitors so can anyone give some options/opinions?
thanks

i would go LCD 21" if price isn't too much of a problem a 21"
just make sure it has a good response time around 8ms if you are going to be gaming on it as well if not you can afford a little higher
if you are a hardcore  gamer then you might want CRT like many on this forum who i am sure will post later
as with most things its down to personal preference
i have 17" and 19" LCD's in a dual config and its great but that subjective just look for what meets your need the most

i cant comment so much on the tv tuner usage, as analog tv typically runs at a low resoultion anyhow... as far as monitor selection, using dual monitors i find is very cool (just ordered a second identical 19" lcd), that should be arriving in a few days... which equates to about 36" of usable desktop space... single view, dual view, spanned desktop, cloned desktop (not sure what the ati equivalent is for settings), for gaming, movies, general usage, etc, also helps a great deal with being able to multitask well, though the bezels dividing them may be annoying, also depending on the thickness of them, and viewing preference in general, whether that would bother you... OR, you can go for a single 21" lcd (or dual 21" lcd if you have enough money), to attain the same thing, at about 40" usable

one of the biggest advantages going to multiple monitors, is cost efficiency, ~$350+ for 2 smaller, compared to a single ~$800+ display of equal size... again, it would greatly depend on if the dividing bezels appear too distracting or not

as far as resolutions though, youre not limited entirely, theres one native resolution that looks best, depending on the monitor, but by no means are you limited to one set resolution

edit: i missed where you said you already had a 17" crt (~15-16" viewable)... identical spec'd monitors usually work best, but, just like up above, it all depends on what you can afford, and prefer... a 19" lcd would be equal to about a 21" crt... a 21" lcd almost a 23" crt (which would definetly dwarf your 17" )... so, whichever would work best for you... crt + crt... lcd + crt... lcd + lcd... ...the most affordable route of course, is to just purchase a second 17" crt

So if i use my TV out on my computer does that mean i can play games and movies on a TV instead of my monitor? whats the quality loss there?

on a standard tv movies will be of normal quality pc games will be of lower quality due to less resolution however if you have a HDTV (high definition) games will be at a nice resolution similar to that of a monitor also you will obviously be able to view hd content you have downloaded on it

I've recently moved from a 19" mitsubishi CRT to a Dell 2407 and am more than impressed.

The thing to remember is that the height if you go for a widescreen format screen maybe less than your existing monitor and look a lot smaller.

My 2407 is approx the same height as the 19". Although I get 20% more screen real estate, maybe I should have gone for the 3007 :-)
