Memory mixing help

Could I use 2x512 gskill 6400 hz with 2x512 corsair twin2x1024-8000ul to give me 2gb ?

Corsair
# DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000)
# 5-4-4-9
# 2.2V


Gskill
# DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
# 4-4-4-12
# 2.0V-2.1V

yes but they will only work as slow as the slowest module, that is 800mhz cas4, you might want to ease the timeings a bit to ensure that the corsair reaches 800mhz cas 4 (should do...)

By any chance did you overclock the corsair, if so what was the original speed (I have a feeling it's 800mhz cas 4...)

So right now I have the 2x512 gskill's at 945MHz 4-4-4-12, if I added the corsairs would I be able to run the 4 sticks in dual channel with the same timings and frequency ?

I'm questioning whether to buy the corsairs, but there manufacturers specs are ddr1000 5-4-4-9.

Some people disagree with me but, it is NEVER a good idea to mix memory types or brands. I certainly would not try to steer you away from buying our memory. However, when mixing memory on current MOBOs, ideally you need to add the EXACT same memory( same brand, same size DIMMs, and same ICs) or there is the possibility of having system instability or a system that will not even boot. Also, in this specific case, there is a good possibility you will be mixing different ICs which is never a good idea. Most MOBO manufacturers recommend against this sort of mixing also. MOBO bios plays a big part in this also.

I have mixed memory and in many cases it will work. However, if any person tells you it will in fact work, keep in mind 2 things.
1. They have most likely never mixed the exact combo of MOBO+bios version, CPU, and memory you intend to mix so they cannot know for sure it will work.
2. The person(s) that give you this advice cannot refund your money or give you new memory in the event that it does not work.

I'm not singling anyone out here, but this post is a good example. I see literally 1000s of posts each week in 20+ forums. Mixing memory is not a good idea. Buy a 2gb kit IMO.

seeing as you have no said you might have to buy them (that you dont have them originally) it might be a good idea to:

A: Buy a 2 GB kit as yeloowbeard suggested, or;

B: Try and buy the same (2x512mb) kit of Gskill memory to ensure proper compatibility.
