Hi, I'm looking at these cards for my new system and would appreciate your comments on which would suit my needs the best.

The build is mainly for home entertainment...I'm not a gamer. It will be based on Intel E6300 and MSI 965P Platinum mobo and I'm trying minimise costs where possible. My options are

MSI Radeon X1300PRO 256MB DDRII, PCI-Express, RX1300PRO-TD256E, Retail

MSI GeForce 7100GS TurboCache DDR2, PCI-Express,supports 512MB,Tv-Out/DVI

Club3D Radeon X1600Pro 256MB, GDDR1, PCI-Express, DVI/Tv-Out

XFX GeForce 7300GS 256MB DDR2, 550Mhz, PCI-Express, DVI-I/Tv-Out

Thanks
Colin

Since its for home entertainment and not gaming, depending on the price difference wouldnt the 7300GS be the wisest buy? (no matter how cheap the 7100gs is I wouldnt want turbocache).

What do you mean by 'home entertainment'?

If you mean gaming, the X1600 PRO is the best bet on your list.

If you mean playing DVDs, the cheapest of those cards will be fine...

For watching DVD's any of these will be perfectly fine, if for gaming the X1600 PRO is best. You may want to check out even a 7600gt if you're going for gamin as the cost difference shouldn't be that much

I would like to point out this article : http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/09/avivo-vs-purevideo/ From what I read here ati is your best solution to dvd playback pricewise

Huh? Any card for the past 10 year can play back DVD, the only issue is TV output quality.

Frankly, I'd look for a deal on a rebated 7600GS that's passively cooled. They've been available for as low as $50 AR.

No, new radeons and Geforces with Avivo and Purevideo have really nice DVD enhancement features like noise reduction, detail enhancement, and inverse telecine.

That review should show Ati and Gefore cards being right on par now though. We had to pull it and revise the article because some Purevideo options weren't enabled in our first tests.
