Why does my mic not work? Properly

Hi i have on board sound AKA AC97

I have bought a gaming headset http://www.lowestonweb.com/products/info.asp?e=242C200A-807A-46AA-918A-077CE5D4C37C

With these speakers : - http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=4&subcategory=25&product=14090

So the gaming headset has 2 cables - a green one for the sound and a pinkish one for the Mic.
My Speakers came with a controller which has 2 ports,
1 to insert my headset "green cable" & another port "Aux " to insert my mic cable.

But when i insert the Mic cable it does not pick it up.!! - Am I doing something wrong??

When i insert the headset @ the back of my machine it works fine!

ANY IDEAS - thanks in advance

Get an extension cable for your pink connection and hook it up to the sound card.
Or get one of these:

I could get one of these without a doubt.. Sounds like an idea.

But to be honest i wanna try resolve it without buying anything else.

If i get an ext then i sounds will come from the speakers i have already and on top of that i have to have the headset on to talk in the mic..

I Kno kno ... i'm being really long about it.. thought it try keep it simple

Any more ideas?
