would it i see any change in my computers preformance if I used a separate head disk to run XP, would it slow my computer down if the hard drive only ran at 5400 RPM compared to the 7200RPM with the other things stored on it such as games. Basically i have just got a legal version of XP already installed this new, slower hard drive.

Well, your performance should be better in theory. Regardless of speed, you could move the pagefile to an allocated partition space on the second drive to keep the I|O's and seeks down on the slower drive. If you install all your data on the second drive you could fall right back into some performance issues where XP is waiting for the second drive to complete too many requests, but you should be fine.
