Hi all

Need a bit of advice please.
I have an Asus A8R-MVP mobo with a 256mb Sapphire X1800XT graphics card on it and would like to stick another one next to it to enhance my gaming experience etc.
On the Asus website it says that I can run 2 x 8 or 1 x 16 card! What does that mean? I presume that my X1800XT is a x16 card? Not really sure...
If it is would, I gain anything by going down to two 8 x cards?

Please help

Thanks a lot

Your card is technically a x16 card since it uses up a x16 slot but it does not need that much bandwidth, so could be in a x8 slot. Your mobo can have 2 PCI-E x16 sized devices in it but each will only have access to the x8 bandwidth (which I think will be fine but I have not set up any crossfire / sli).

You would gain by installing two cards, but you would get more performance by upgrading to a better card entirely, either a single 1900 XT or better yet, a 1950 XT.
