Hello.

In recent days Microsoft released security patch MS05-039 to address a plug
and play issue with windows operating systems. When I received this I ran a
scan of all our servers using MBSA 2.0 against our SUS servers (all were
synchronised prior to running this scan) which came back saying that all of
our servers passed. I know for a fact however that the MS05-039 patch has
not been installed on ANY server.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be that a previous security
update patch covers most of the exploits that MS05-039 addresses, and that
the certain components that are first addressed in MS05-039 aren't on our
systems? Everybody here concurs that this patch should be installed even
when MBSA is passing all of our severs.

I'd really appreciate if someone help clear this up for me as we're
naturally concerned about this patch, given it's critical rating by MS.

Thanks in advance.

MBSA may not be aware of the vulnerability. Patch the systems ASAP to avoid the latest P 'n
P Exploit codes which come as Internet worms.
