The correct terminology is "IDE" which is sata running with only IDE commands, thus compatible with regular Windows drivers; and "AHCI" which allows hot swapping and disconnect and NCQ. AHCI is better but make sure the drive is FORMATTED under AHCI, otherwise it may show as unformatted or RAW when AHCI is enabled.
