You've got a lot of characters on the go, huh?

Lance, maybe you need a henchman. I get on really well with my druid, so
long as I back her up with a smart rogue.
I never found the bit that allows you to multi-class, though, so I always
stick to the basic character classes

Allows you to multiclass? What do you mean? There are of course some
restrictions as to what classes/alignments can me mixed, but those are
stated in the class info boxes. And for prestige classes there are some
extra requirements that must first be met (meaning you can't choose them
right away you have to have some experience/skills gained), but those are
also told in the same place.

The author of the module I'm playing in (Birthright, its called) has
deliberately altered henchmen so they lag well behind you in levels;
if I could find a rogue henchman he'd be something like 3rd level...
my own roguely skills are better than that at this point.

On the other hand, I can't believe you used the word smart to describe
any NWN AI... unless you mean one with a high INT (for the disarm
traps skill checks). Getting NWN henchmen to do what you want is one
of the arcane arts of NWN play!

There is no "bit that allows you to multiclass"; if your character is
qualified for a class then he/she can take his next level in it. For
example you can't start as a LG monk and get a later level in Druid
unless you manage to change one of the alignments to N (NG or LN), but
you can always take a level of cleric or rogue or most other basic
classes. Its possible you'd make a very poor choice, for example a
fighter/sorcerer with a 8 charisma, who won't be able to cast any
spells at all... but its allowed.

For the Prestige classes (assuming you have SOU or HOTU) the minimum
qualifications to take the class are more stringent, by and large you
have to have planned things in advance, and likely have 6 or so
character levels in your basic class(es) before you manage to qualify.

There's also a limit of three classes total, and exp penalties if you
multiclass with some races outside their specialty and don't keep your
levels more or less the same. But those won't keep you from
multiclassing in the first place.

Vellu, I meant that I haven't been able to find anything that allows me to
mix the properties of different classes. Maybe I missed it

It sounds like you're thinking of something different from what the game
does when you say "multiclassing."

When you level up, you're offered a menu of classes. You can take a
level of any class you qualify for. A multiclass character is a
character with levels of more than one class.

For example, that character I was talking about earlier

Started as a single class Fighter.
Did 6 levels of that
Then became multiclass, taking one level of Bard.
(that made me a 6 fighter/1 bard, 7 level character)
Then became even more multiclass, taking my 8th level as a RDD.
(6 fighter/1 bard/1 RDD)
took my next 9 levels as RDD
(6 fighter/1 bard/10 RDD: 17 level character)
then took a level of bard
(6 fighter/2 bard/10 RDD: 18 level character)
then another level of fighter
(7 fighter/2 bard/10 RDD: 19 level character)
then a third of bard
(7 fighter/3 bard/10 RDD: 20 level character)
then my following 7 levels have all been RDD
7 fighter/3 bard/17 RDD: 27 level character)

By taking bard at those levels, I was able to plug lots of skill
points into bardly skills like tumble and use magic devices, while
spending as many of my early levels as possible as a fighter which
made for better fighting abilities and more feats. I took all the RDD
I could pre 20 (limit of 10 levels) and then went pure RDD after that,
as the build was designed primarily as a Red Dragon Disciple

This means I did combine the classes... but not by choosing a bit from
column A and a bit from column B; by sacrificing levels of my original
Fighter class to buy levels in my other classes.
