Dumb question? I want to watch some of the sports on HDnet with my regular
tv. The Champ Car series is being covered without commercials and features
more coverage than what they are showing on Spike. I'm considering Dish or
Directv.

Thanks!

HDNET is on Cable (Time Warner) & it is in High Definition.

My guess is IF you can get HDNET via your local Cable and

down covert it from the SA3250HD digital Cable box via the S-Video

port to 480i... You should then be able to view it on an Analog
TV...

thru your TVs S-Video input port..... in 4:3 aspect ratio...

So what is the question? All I see is a statement of what you want to
watch.

If you have a DirecTV HD receiver, it will get all of DirecTV and all
OTA.
It will output the signal in many formats, including 480i.

I watch HD on my upstairs 46" SD RPTV all the time.
It is only 480, however and that is DVD quality.

But ANY HD receiver will downconvert HD to 480 for viewing on an SD set.

I do it all the time. It is DVD quality. Far superior to regular TV
broadcasts.

Well, that is a tautaulogy. Yes, it's "HD-only" but you *can* display
it on a regular television. A lot of digital and HD receivers provide
NTSC, S-video, and component outputs for a regular TV.

I just called Insight (my cable provider) and asked them the same question.
They said it would work. The digital box also has a DVR and rents for
$12.95 per month. The HD channels are $7.95 per month. Champ Car gets into
my pocket again, but I'm used to that. ;-) They're coming to install it May
1st!

Long live the turbo and the right hand turn!!!

in 4:3?
Why?

It is 16:9 and will be letterboxed.

That was going to be my comment. My Star Choice DSR500 converts any HD
signal to 480i if I set it to do that (normally I just run the output at
1080i and upconvert the SD stuff but I experimented with my old TV and
you can watch the HD signal letterboxed simply by selecting 480i for the
output. I don't know about other products but all of the digicipher II
equipment I've seen has the option.
