Hi all,

i have an older PC with the QDI Kinetiz 7T motherboard.
I'd like to replace my old system HDD (40GB) with a new one (IDE) but have no idea what is the maximum capacity this motherboard supports (i.e. if i can buy e.g. a 300 MB HDD).

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I have never heard of this motherboard, so I can't provide specific advice, and there is no indication of how old is "old."

If you have 40 now, you likely can go up to 120GB readily. Don't forget there's that 127 or 128GB limit on HD capacity on older boards.

My advice: go to Fry's, buy the biggest drive you can afford, and try it out. If it doesn't work you can always return it. Even if it is supposed to work because it is within the allowable size, you'll probably end up returning it anyways at least a few times because it seems everything is so cheap nowadays and the overseas manufacturing so shoddy that you have to go through a half dozen parts before you accidently find one that works.
