They aren't very popular, which is surprising but I think that comes from their limited availability and lack of marketing, but I would avoid them. They are of *average* quality but their price is the same as many *top* quality brands.

Yeah, they're price is high, but lifetime warranty? I looked at them briefly before i ordered my new computer but went elsewhere.

I've always had great service and products with BFG. But they're new to PSUs.

They may have a lifetime warranty on the PSU itself but they cant warrant your Mobo/CPU/memory/video card when the PSU blows and takes them to an early grave as well

They were discussed and left in Tier 4 for a variety of reasons. Perkam and jonnyGURU don't like them and I would agree with them on almost every choice they make regarding PSU quality.

Stick to Tier 1/2. Plenty in Tier 2 that can be had for a good price.

I just (yesterday) received an OCZ GameXstream 700 and am very impressed in it's quality.

Here is a review from a reliable source: JG review

I would buy a better one than a BFGTech PSU personally. I like the corsair series a lot (which is actually made by seasonic :P )

so lets say, hypotheticaly, that i have a BFG 800 watt power supple to power my new comp with a 8800gtx and an E6600oc'd, and a several other fancy things. would it be better to return the gpu and get another one, or will it hold up?

since i have not yet built this hypothetical rig, it is not too late for me to get on the return thing.

im always speaking hypotheticaly.

No, but you won't need 800 watts to power that most likely. I'm a little leery of BFG PSUs simply because of that review JG did. There are better 800W power supplies out there. A good 600W can power an 8800GTX/C2D comfortably. When I say a good 600W I mean a good brand such as FSP Group, Seasonic, Silverstone.

If you aren't into modular I'm sure this PSU will power your system fine.

If your going to build it,build it right.

If you want a good PS go with a CoolerMaster 850W Real Power Pro Quad.
they run at 1000w max with six 12 volt rails. Their a little on the heavy side,[8lbs] and about 1-1/2 inches longer than most. Its also very well built, and even the HDD cables are sleeved right to the end.And you can just about hear it running.

PSU can never be too heavy! Good quality has weight :) Except if they tape a few rocks in the corners...

I once opened a shitty digital camera and found a lead weight taped to the inside of the case.

so Fortron FSP Epsilon FX700-GLN would be a good choice to run a 8800gtx, e6600, 680i mobo, 2 gigs pc 6400 @800mhz, 2 250 gig sata drive and a few other things?

this damn power supply is the most complicated thing here.

Lol there is no way he will be using anywhere near the 850W provided by that power supply, it would be a waste of money and a waste of efficiency. Which would also lead to another waste of money (but more ongoing)

And unless you are running a server no one needs a kW :P

Yeah, I would certainly choose the FSP Epsilon over the BFG. I'm sure the BFG isn't bad, but in the same price range you can purchase more peace of mind.

The BFG is merely decent. But not very good price/performance IMO. There are much better out there for the price (~$115). BTW the BFG is not made by BFG it is actually made by Topower so I'm assuming you're paying for the brand name a little :(
