Make an OTA tuner and DVD recorder with optional hard-disk/tivo. You can
charge $99 (US) and $199 with the 250GB hard disk. And don't make it too
deep either, I want to put it on top of the projection TV, about 6" is all,
I reckon.

Additionally, would someone step up the plate and a 1080p 16:9 camcorder,
again, recording on DVD, not magnetic tape. You can charge me $999 but I'll
get call NYC and get it for $600 (no sales tax, $10 delivery).

And lastly, could you do this in America because we'll give you a billion
dollars to do that, and we really don't want to give it to the Japs or the
Europeans. Maybe, just maybe, the Chinese. Because they have such cute
babies, and for whatever reason, we feel sorry for them.

Sorry about the jingoism, but I'm just a little tired of RCA and Zenith and
GE selling their name to imported junk.

The RCA and GE trademarks are owned by Thomson, a French company. They seem
to be phasing out their North American assembly facilities. Zenith is owned
by LG Electronics, a South Korean company. Why would you expect ther
products to made in the USA? Surprising some Sonys I have owned were made
in California.

I would be surprised if RCA makes anything in the US anymore. They
started moving overseas I think in the late 70's. My mother worked for
them at the picture tube plant in Lancaster, PA, and they were moving
things away from there back in the late 70's.

I was surprised to learn that Philips makes RP HDTV's in Tennessee using a
contract house.

Sony+Mexico. No problem. Gents, the post was about American companies
refusing to make a better mousetrap. They know we want a better mousetrap,
they know we'll pay for a better mousetrap, they just are too lazy to MAKE a
better mousetrap.

Did you ever get that chain-email about not buying Exxon-Mobil gas? After
all their itemized expenses, they made 21.5 billion dollars. *After*
expenses. If they sunk 1/100 of that into what I've asked for, they would
have no issue at all meeting my simple demands. Plus, like any publicly held
corporation in a capitalistic society, turn it into a profit generating
business unit.

Now I did catch one company making an HDTV camcorder, it's about 3k, and
it's magnetic tape. I'm sure the quality is there, but isn't that just plain
dumb? Why do I want to fast forward and rewind when I can get instant access
to a DVD? Plus less moving parts meaning longer life and cheaper
manufacturing costs.

As for the "VCR" of the future. Cripes, someone is going to do it
eventually. It is inevitable.
