Ok i have done a google search so don't tell me too.. however benchmarks aer benchmarks and i can only find a few realiable source. What i hope is that someone here in Toms hardware actually used both hds before and can give a first hand say on it.

Is the 150 raptor Really 10-20% faster than the 74GB raptors or is it rurmor again..

in fact, i saw a graph slowing that 2x74GB raptor cant beat a single 150 one..

so, what is the REAL answer?

Just look on the front page of Toms
nice review that shows both are practically the same, just different storage capacities.

the 74GB drive beats the 150GB in some test.
in others where IO is higher (workstation apps) the 150GB beats out the 74GB
overall the 150GB is the better drive.

another review showing basically the same thing in more detail.

type exactly "raptor 150gb vs 74gb vs 36gb" into google & see.... 8 out of 10 links show that the 150gb raptor is better than the 74gb ones by 10-20% and completely ownz the 36gb ones in all tests

thats y i am confuse as to which to get.. the 74gb one or the 150gb one.. but i dun wan to get the 150gb one cuz the price kills. then i dun wan to compromise performance too, so i wanted to find out whether the 74gb one is really that much slower and thus this thread.

not that i dun trust toms test.

There are two versions of the 74GB raptor, the 8mb cache version and the 16mb ache version. when i did the search lots of the returns were for the older 8mb 74Gb raptor.

Regardless, both the 74Gb and 150GB raptors lay waste to anything out there. you will be happy with either one.
Just get the one that fits your budget. why ruin your budget for something that may or may not give you 10%

You should also think about storage as well. you can pick up 300+GB drives for the cost of the raptors.

well u have a good point there.. really. the 74gb is almost half the price of the 150 one.

still, hopefully, someone whos owns two of the hds will show up :D  that will be superb!

150 raptor vs 74 raptor... the performance is not noticable in a single drive configuration, however in a raid0 setup the 150s will outperform the 74's by almost 20% It also can depend on which chipset you are using.

Hope this helps

erm... u have erm both?

i going for a single config.. u sure they perform the same?

yes. i have 2 150 raptors in raid 0 now and another machine with 2 74 raptors in raid 0. I have done alot of testing with both setups in raid and and single drive config. The 150 will perform slightly better than the 74 in single drive config but the difference is very minimul.

So what's the read speed on your 2x150Gb Raptors in Raid0 pushing? As well at them 2x74s.

150 RAID0 16k stripe max at 267386 write, 276429 read
74 RAID0 16k stripe max at 229735 write, 248521 read

150 single max at 99614 write, 200824 read
74 single max at 97003 read, 184493 write.

These test were done with ATTO Disk Benchmark on a core 2 6700 at 3.3ghz. I have done tests with 8k to 128k stripe sizes and found the best perfomance with the 16k stripe. I would upload the images but not sure how to post them here??[/img]
