how can i tell if for example my new x1900xt ati card can display certain native resolutions for a lcd what should i look for?

in other words how can i tell if the video card im buying can support the native resolution or any resolution for a lcd.

the max resolution is 2560 x 1600 for the card.
does that mean i can use any lcd as long as its native or max resolution is under the max of the video card?

yes that is correct. i may be wrong but i belive the limitation is not the card but of the dual link DVI connector.

either way the x1900xt can handle all the res you will need.

Yes, also the native and max resolutions on an LCD are identical

You are correct, single-link DVI tops out at 1920x1200, dual tops out at...2560x1600. The card itself could probably go higher on an analog link but 2560x1600 is insanity anyway so...
