I've just ordered this card, and have been reading that it runs pretty hot. I haven't been able to find anything about air cooling for this card, and am curious to see if anyone has any information/recommendations in this area?

I know there are waterblocks built for the 8800, and that BFG has come out with 8800 models with waterblocks already built on. Both of these options seem to drop core temperatures by about 20C at full load. Any air cooling that even comes close?

They don't run incredibly hot for a graphics card. An you could always force the fan speed to 100% in ntune.

There isnt any hsf for the 8800gxx currently on the market that i know of. BFG has their waterblock card out. Just like you said. I also know that sidewinder computers has a adapter kit for 8800gxx.
Here:

and Swiftech waterblock with the adapter kit

Just like Valtiel said i use ntune to crank my rpm's on my 2x 8800gtx's.
I just have not figured out how to keep the speed 100% after restarting my system. My temps at speed 100% idle - 49c and load 57c.

Well those temps aren't bad. I had read to expect quite a bit higher at full load.

Here is a older picture. I have two 90mm fans blowing from the side and it helps my temperature stay that low. I curently have one fan at front of the two card and one to the side. I am also using liquid cooling for my cpu. I will post some pictures in future but i do not know where my digital camera is :( .

I created ducting for mine that brings me to 57C at idle w/ stock fan speed and a closed case. At load it hits around low 70's again with stock fan speed. At 100% fan speed the idle temp drop to 53C at idle but makes way to much noise. If you want it quite it's going to be hot without liquid cooling.

The Stock heat sink is poorly designed at least on the Evga version, which is supposed to be an improvement on the reference design. It vents hot air right back into the case. With a little ducting which will take up another slot or two you can solve this problem. For me that was 10-15C drop for the card and 3C drop for the CPU.

I just found a way to get my 100% speed on the two 8800gtx to works when the pc is restarted. When you open Riva Tuner  Target adapter  Low-level system settings  (check mark) Enable low-level fan control  (check mark) Fixed 100% duty cycle  (check mark) Apply fan settings at startup....... APPLY.

Temps at idle 48 gpu 1 and 47 gpu 2. Nice.

Here is two pictures with one 90mm fan blowing air from the front of the two 8800gtx's.

So mostly what I'm reading here is that if you aren't willing to spend 300+ dollars on a liquid cooling system and are a case modding noob your 8800 GTX is going to run pretty hot?

That cooling system you've posted pictures of looks pretty complex. I really know nothing about moding cases. I can read and follow directions. I wouldn't be comfortable doing more than that to an expensive computer. There are no aftermarket coolers that are compatible with the 8800 then?

Not necessarily. Just use RivaTuner and or nTune to crank your 8800gtx speed (rpm). That will keep the temps down on your 8800gtx.

I only have liquid cooling on my CPU and not on my two 8800gtx's. Yep there aren't any aftermarket air coolers to buy currently at this point. Probably there will be in future.

Here is the site to DL Nvidia nTune.

I use NVIDIA Monitor (this software comes with Nvidia Ntune) and Atitool to monitor my gpu temps.

umm to cool a 8800 gtx?? simple!! buy a antec 900 case at comp usa for 100$. it has a 200mm exhaust fan at the top of the case and another fan tht blows str8 on the graphic card from the side panel. read reviews of it dropping the gpu temp pretty damn nicely. also i would jack up the fan speed on the gpu as others said.
