I just bought a new imate jam - it says 64mb ram but the review said it only
had 7mb flash memory. On my old pda I assigned 32mb of ram to files - I take
it I can still do that ? does the 7mb refer to non-volatile memory ?

look at start/settings/system/memory
Know it's confusing
flash ROM is used to store the os... what's "left over" is allocated to
the user as a "safe storage area" that will retain files after a power
failure... probably what that "7mb flash memory" is referring to.
total RAM is dynamically divided between os, running apps and user
storage and varies depending on what's running and what's stored.
The above page should also show the "storage card" memory in your slots
and the amount remaining on the card(s)

ah so the 7mb is non-volatile but the 64mb will be lost if I let the battery
go flat etc ? the unit is the i-mate jam.

Doesn't it come with a manual?
The imate site seems to say it has 64Mb RAM and 64 Mb ROM, and has
manuals for download, FAQ's and email support. www.imate.com

don't know the jam, but, yes, everything in ram will be gone if you
allow the battery to drain completely
1 - get a backup to memory card utility and use it... most devices ship
with one either in rom on on the companion cd
2 - start the habit of putting it on charge every day like keeping a
charger near the bed... the lion batteries do better if kept fully
charged anyway.
3 - if you modify contacts and files in the ram my documents... sync
regularly.
