Using Windows 2000 Pro there's a 16 bit program that requiers autoexe.nt to
run. This file keeps disappearing when the machine is rebooted. As of now
I've written a batch file to reinstall the file at startup. Any and all
suggestions are appreciated.

Sounds like some spyware/malware is trying to upset your
system. Download & run AdAware - it might solve your
problem. You should also examine the Startup tab of msconfig.exe
(http://www.svrops.com/svrops/dwnldoth.htm) for suspicious
items.

To prevent autoexec.nt from being deleted, nail it down with
appropriate NTFS permissions. Make it read-only for everyone
and make a non-administrator the owner.
